Kesshin Kan Dojo
First quarter of 2010

What a long winter we had this year. It seemed like it would never end, but we took full advantage of being “dojo bound” and trained and trained and trained in expectation of promotions and our first outing of the year at Parris Island, SC. Promotions were held early in March. Most of the kids received their next stripe on their obi’s and are now working hard toward that next color belt. Adult students are moving right along and really starting to train hard. Tuite and self defense training that Kyoshi is sharing with us is eagerly received and highly anticipated. It’s fun to barely touch someone and have the ability to have such an impact on their physical being.

Boy did we have a mob at Parris Island! I think we took up half of the hotel we stayed in. When the whole group was in the lobby, it looked like a convention had come to town, and sounded like one, too. I am confident that everyone at the triathlon knew who belonged to Vic Coffin Karate Dojo. All wore their shirts and again displayed the support and team spirit that we have become known for. It’s energizing to see people participate in their first event and see them finish something that they had no idea they were capable of completing. Everyone was properly attired this year, even Teddy. Ronak set a record in the swim and our new poster girl is Alysia. The photographer just can’t get enough of our group.

There is an epidemic in the dojo called “new bicycle-itis”. Performance knows us all and just loves to see us coming in the door.

We had a slightly smaller group at the Spring ride in Edenton this year. Johann has decided that it is not a good idea to leave your tent for the bathroom during a tornado. After the excitement of a very eventful, stormy night, the weather was beautiful and we had an enjoyable ride. Even Mrs. Dr. G got to break in her new bike with us. Did you know that Johann and Neil can snore in harmony?

Mr. Chodyniecki, Ms. Promislow and Ms. Nguyen are all now officially full fledged Shodans and have all received their embroidered black belts from Shureido.! Hurray! Now the work begins. Dr. G & Mr. Shu have become our newest probationary Shodans. Congratulations Jeff & Dr. G! I have a feeling that it won’t be long before a few others will be joining them. The momentum in the adult class is infectious, and we are looking forward to another enjoyable summer of training.

Welcome to all our new dojo family members! I promise you will not be sorry you joined us!

Until next quarter…………God bless and Oorah!!!!
